In his first season at PSV, Huntelaar Quickly established Himself as a Prolific goalscorer for A1 Their youth teams under coach Willy van der Kuijlen, scoring 26 goals in 23 games to Become the top scorer in the youth leagues. In his second season at PSV, Huntelaar was added to the senior squad under coach Guus Hiddink. Huntelaar scored 26 goals in 35 league appearances and finished the season as the division's top goalscorer as well as being named the Jupiler League's Player of the Season. Huntelaar started the 2004-05 season by scoring on his debut Eredivisie with Heerenveen against AZ and took his scoring tally to 10 goals in 17 games at the winter break. At the end of the season Huntelaar had scored a total of 17 goals in 31 matches, Helping Heerenveen qualify for the UEFA Cup.
In January 2006 Huntelaar signed for AFC Ajax, the club he had supported as a child. Huntelaar made his Ajax debut after the winter break and scored his first goal for the team on 5 February 2006, against his former club SC Heerenveen in a KNVB Cup tie. Huntelaar played in the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship for the Netherlands under coach Louis van Gaal. Huntelaar was named as one of two strikers in the UEFA Team of the Tournament.
