On 18 August 2011, Porto Agreed Announced They had a fee with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Falcao. Falcao made his debut on September 10 Atlético away to Valencia, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 defeat. Three days later, Falcao scored another brace in the 4-0 victory over Sporting Gijon, putting Himself as the top scorer of the league with five goals, alongside Lionel Messi and Roberto Soldado. For the first leg of the 2011-12 Europa League semifinals against Valencia, Falcao scored a double in a 4-2 victory while making Atletico Madrid the first team to win 10 straight matches in a single season Europa League.


Falcao proved his worth in their third group game against Bolivia, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win That secured passage into the quarter-finals. This being the first time ever Falcao has scored more than one goal in a game at international level. Falcao made a goal against Bolivia during the first match of Colombia's qualifying for the 2014 world cup during the final minute of the game, giving Colombia a 2-1 win, the first ever win of Colombia in La Paz. In February, Falcao made another field goal against Mexico in a game That ended up 2-0.
